Although CHEEBA received $2,300 from the student government, it was for an event "designed around the legal activity of advocating for marijuana legalization, not the illegal activity of smoking marijuana," he said.
Evidently, that expensive Mac education doesn't include a course on how to recognize bullshit when you are stoned.

I blame Stone and Hoppe, who obviously have a chip on their shoulder resulting from their last names.
Hey, way to wait until the last possible moment to nip it in the....no, I won't. I won't, I won't, I won't say it.

The student organizers, members of the official campus club CHEEBA (Creating a Harmless Environment to Enjoy Buds Appropriately), were unavailable for comment.
They were probably to busy down at the "official" clubhouse piercing each others ears or working on their skateboards. I wonder if they have thought about the Harmless Environment that they have already Created for people in Latin and South America due thier Inappropriate Enjoyment of Buds (HECIEB). They've already done so much for social justice, i just can't see how they can do much more.

But come on people, given that I'd bet a good percentage of folks on this site are white professionals making decent money, bitching about Mac students seems kind of petty. Can't we reserve our bile for a group that deserves it? Like people that go to Chino Latino and Drink regularly?

It's not "you guys," it is "those guys" - but definitely check them out. I've been friends with their bassist for years and he stops by my band's shows and sits in now and again and has so graciously extended the same invitation to me and my harps.

For those of us who havent lived in the Twin Cities all our lives can someone provide a stereotype primer. I am picking a lot of it up here in bits but it would be helpfull all at once so I can refer back. Someone can start with a description of the student bodies at each college. In the perfect stereotype world how does a "Mac" student differ from a St. Olaf, Carleton, U of M, Hamline, Augsburg, Concordia, or St. Thomas student (did I miss some)? Maybe after colleges we can get to highschools, neighborhoods, religions, political parties, and races.

I'll be at the Summit Scandia release party tonight at the brewery. Not sure how complicated it'd be to get in without a ticket, but I'm sure they'll have it there, and probably a lot of it. I can't imagine it'd be too hard if you were there with your camera and wanted to "promote it" on some random local vlog. :-)

Ooo, tbartel and I compete in MIAC stereotypes as sport.
St. Olaf - Holy....during the week. Freshly scrubbed.
Carleton - Frustrated they didn't get into the Ivy Leagues (booyah! take that Matt!)
Hamline - City school in a little city.
U of M - "There are other colleges in Minnesota?"
Augsburg - City school. Sports. Nurses.
Concordia - Not Moorehead.
St. Thomas - "You may hate me, but I own you."
»» Submitted by »»» aeklund at 5:24 PM on April 20
Here's a start:
Mac - Priviledged hippie, self-righteous and better than you. In my way when I'm driving down Grand Ave.
St. Thomas - MBA wannabe or blond airhead. Always getting in my way on Summit, bastards.
St. Olaf - big boned with the feeling of insecurity
Carleton - like Mac, but -5% rastification and +10% of the priviledge
U of M - um, Asian? I dunno.
Hameline - hard to clasify although according to the press racial oblivious
Concordia - isn't that kind of like Central High but costs money. heh.
Augsburg - they have a tennis court next to hwy 94.
Please, feel free to add and expand.

My Alma Mater, U of M: Eligability requirement to enroll? A pulse.
I like to tell people I went to the same school as Bullwinkle. Whatsamatta U.
St. Olaf - nerdy but pleasant achievers who went to third-ring suburban high schools; wanted to get "away" but not too far away. Still close enough to come home on weekends so mom will do the laundry.
Preferred major: anthropology.
Carleton - politically liberal but conservatively dressed navel gazers who have the financial means to do so without having to do work-study.
Preferred major: political science.
Macalester - The urban Carlton, just not as well-dressed. Carleton students' parents are just as left as the students themselves; Macalester students are rebelling against their parents' conservatism.
Preferred major: self-directed liberal studies.
Hamline - Never made varsity anything in high school but had good enough grades to get in. Think the "fraternities" there are a pretty wild place to "party."
Preferred major: econ.
Augsburg - Same as Olaf, except they migrate in to the city from small towns and drink a lot more.
Preferred major: accounting.
Concordia - Perfect attendance at Sunday school throughout their youth.
Preferred major: divinity.
St. Thomas - Football and cheerleading captains all intending to major in "business," though if you ask them what they want to be when they graduate they won't have any idea. Will end up inheriting dad's car dealership.
Preferred major: I already toldja.
U of M - everyone else. And lots and lots of furriners.
Preferred major: survival.

The U *does* have some requirements. It's the state schools that barely require a pulse, especially St. Cloud. Nobody's mentioned St. Catherine -- but it's nice to see everyone else has St. Thomas pegged.

Chewbacca? The Jewish Festival of Lights?
If Chewie is Jewish, then ...
Han Solo - Agnostic/Capitalist (man, that was easy...)
Luke - Lutheran - too close to his parents
C3PO - Catholic - Overly concerned with his state of being and rituals
R2D2 - Unitarian - Couldn't give a rat's ass for the spiritual. Give me a damn corkscrew and a set of coasters, and we'll bust the f'er up!
The Princess - UCC - She's ornery.
Darth - The Church of Rumsfeld
There. 14 years on the Internet and I just made my first Star Wars post.

Love seeing the Twin City populace's irrational stereotyping/dislike of the colleges and college students whose presence (in many direct and indirect ways) improves the overall quality of life in the TC region. Educated people are good to have around, economically and culturally. Alot of these graduates stick around and do all kinds of great things for the area.
But I suppose this is all in good fun so I don't really wanna ruin everyones good times...though some of you should definitely remove the sticks lodged up your rears.

Your comments werent the ones i was really responding to. in fact I found them rather entertaining.
However, Paul, Harry and Larry...whose comments really speak for themselves, should relax a little bit. They would be hard pressed to find any American college/university that didn't have its fair share of kids experimenting with drugs, many of them alot more harmful to the general socioeconomic health of South American countries than Marijuana, most of which (at least the stuff being sold here) is grown either right here in Minnesota or Canada.

Augsburg/UofM here...I guess that makes me the Michael Chang of local college graduates.
The guess the good thing about Augsburg is that nobody knows anyone who went there well enough to form a stereotype.

Hah, I have a couple of friends going back to high school that went to Augsburg. One of them actually graduated, and plenty of his friends went there, too -- but "tennis courts along I94" is as good as anything else that comes to mind when I think about Augsburg.
And I'm trying to restrain myself from making a coherent snark on St. Thomas...

Some Carleton kids once stole a 1 ton rock from Mac's campus that had "Macalester" engraved on it and mailed it back COD from Illinois. That pretty much sums up Carleton's character.

I went to St. Thomas and I'd just like to say that the stereotypes are true. It's no wonder I hated college and spent as much time off campus as possible. And I'm proud to say that I never attended one football game, not even against the Johnnies. Which reminds me, what are the St. John's stereotypes?
(My parents aren't even rich. Or Catholic. What was I even doing at St.. Thomas? Gah!)

It's funny because my brother made a comment not too long ago that was very hilarious, but kind of true when describing certain students and the school they go to.
"You can always tell what students come from what school around here without ever really knowing, Mac students are always scruffy, hippie or hipster like and look very studious. St.Thomas boys always have the prep look with a baseball hat tapped off to the side while the all the girls look like they are dressed to go to a club everyday, even if it's just for class.St.Kate's girls are chicks who looked like they just rolled out of bed, don't care about how they look and have attitude about the littlest things or try to hard to look good and instead hoochie up. Finally, U of M students, all school spirit gear all the time."
