God doesn't want new strip club!

Posted August 4, 2006

Club 3 Degree, the downtown Christian nightclub is claiming itself a church to prevent a new strip club from opening near it. Does downtown need another strip club? If it's a church, can we send the panhandlers to it?

SO what is the definition of a church then? If I throwdown a fridge box and paint a cross on it, do I have a church (and thus a tax break)?

I can't be the only one what thinks this city needs more strip clubs and less churches.

Wow, I had no idea that this place was a Christian spot.

But just lkike any other church, they do beg for money.
Among their events:

Sunday 10:30 am Satellite Service: Live praise & worship followed by Pastor Mac Hammond

Mac hammond, isn't that the guy who does "Winner's Way' religous soundbytes on TV?

so I'm one of the last people who would support the opening of a strip club, but I think the argument that 3 degrees is a church is absolute insanity. 3 degrees set up shop in the neighborhood knowing FULL WELL it was an 'adult entertainment' district complete with all the surely sinful activities associated with them - so how can they even begin to put up a fuss about another club opening? thats like buying a house next to the airport and then complaining when you hear airplanes.

pure ridiculousness and a waste of government time.

What if Divas holds church services on Sunday Mornings? Then, could they fight back citing striping as a religous belief?

I assume that they serve the lord's drink at 3 degrees?

»» Submitted by baker at 12:03 PM on August 4

The "church" would consider panhandlers competition for handouts.
»» Submitted by Foster at 12:19 PM on August 4

I was thinking the same thing Koala.
Because to some, the lap dance can be a religious experience.

Getting drunk with a stripper on my lap? Tell me that ain't heaven!

I assume that they serve the lord's drink at 3 degrees?

Actually they don't serve alcohol. Because the Lord never drank. . .or turned water into wine for parties.

The fact that a Christian nightclub thinks it can categorize itself as a church is ludicrous.

Diva's went through all the proper channels and has put at least $50K into the building already. This is unfair.

»» Submitted by Kurt at 2:06 PM on August 4

You would think they would want the strippers and their cusotmers nearby so that it was easier to access those sinners for recruitment and saving.

Nothing like bible bangers to locate their business across the street from the Adult Oriented Business Zoning Overlay and then complain when there are adult businesses.
»» Submitted by Mpls Simpleton at 2:10 PM on August 4

Council Members Cam Gordon, Paul Ostrow and Don Samuels each voted that Three Degrees, which holds worship services on Sunday and Wednesday nights, falls into the "religious assembly" category.

If it holds worship services, then its a church. Maybe the other readers should request repealing the city ordinance instead of changing the definition of church.

Why is it that the Christians can take legal action to keep things they do not believe in away from them, but I can't sue to keep them away from me while I am enjoying the things I believe in, like sex, booze and dancing?
»» Submitted by Reader at 2:14 PM on August 4

And how come they get, like, seven television stations to themselves, but there's no similar booze, sex, and snorking coke off hookers' asses stations? Besides FOX, of course.

This ruling has shaken my faith in God.
How could he not intervene on behalf of these poor Christian Rockers?

HOW!

If God doesn't want that strip club open, he'll do something about it himself. Sheesh, it's not like he's crippled or anything.
Let the smiting begin!

I'm glad this went the way it did.

Basically, the club knew exactly what they were moving into, an "adult-zoned" area. Now, it's their right to try to "clean up" the area (in their opinion) by spreading their word via their business. Free speech, you know?

However, it's not their right to impose morality on others by picking and choosing their status at-will, just because a strip club wants to move in next door.

Oh yeah, and the whole "legal action" bit, maybe they should spend some money on the poor and downtrodden instead of hiring a lawyer.

I'm sick and tired of these bible-thumping, nazi SS crackpots, jack-booted kaiser thugs, shoving their politcial extremist agenda down everyone's throat! So what if Minneapolis has a strip joint for the girls! Big Deal! Nobody's putting a rifle at your head in order to go down there to see private nudity. We're a democracy, not Saudi Arabia or China for heaven's sake! And if the right wing Christian community want's it, then they should get out of this country and moved! End of story!

It is in the Warehouse district. Everyone knows that that is where all the strip clubs are going to be. When I was downtown the other day, I picked up a free voucher to go to Sheiks Gentleman CLub, just for humor. Because, I find it funny that in this liberal state we can just pick up free admission to strip joints on the niccolet mall. : ] lol

Most of the comments written above are so immature. What has this world come to? Maybe some of you have had a bad experience with christianity, but that's not necessarily the way all christians are. I'm sorry if you have had that experience, but know this, my God loves you no matter what you say or do. He loves you with a love that is never-ending. God, the true God, reigns for eternity and nothing can stop Him, even a strip club. There is a reason for all that is happening, and for now we will just have to trust Him, the creator of all because my God lives.

Why is it that whenever you try and have a debate with a Christian they either quote scriptures or plagiarize the Bible? We don't argue with you so you can pull excerpts from a book that we (intelligent, free-thinking individuals) think is blaspheme. Three degrees is not a church. I am willing to bet the owner is doing more than alright for him/herself. Not only that but what is the difference between all of the bars that lie within a one mile radius and a strip club. Way worse things happen at those bars. I've had premarital sex with numerous girls from those bars. If I by chance end up at a strip club, the night was either a wash or I wasn't planning on getting laid. My point is bars are more evil than strip clubs, and that is why I find them considerably more entertaining. I hope Divas forces Three Degrees into Chapter 11.

1) Isn't it a conflict of interest to profit off of God?

2) Just a quick heads up... there are over 20,000 denominations of Christianity. I think it's unfair to lump all 20k into one group. I think 3 Degrees is likely some evangelical neo-con jumbotron-watching hybrid.

3) this reminds me of a pamphlet i found in the stalls at a Byerly's whilst taking a deuce. It had a cute little graphic explaining how logic, morality, philosophy, science, religion, and some others will not get us closer to God... only Jesus can do that... which I think shows a STAGGERING lack of understanding of one's own faith tradition... but whatever. Also.. if God is supposed to be "Truth"... wouldn't "seeking truth" bring one closer to--ohh, say-- TRUTH and thus GOD?

What we're fighting here is not Christianity... it's blind group-think and ignornace that is mincing about in a cheap, Christianity knock-off that can be spotted a mile away.

2) Just a quick heads up... there are over 20,000 denominations of Christianity.

Nonsense. Let's see the list.

I think 3 Degrees is likely some evangelical neo-con jumbotron-watching hybrid.

Look, for the zillionth time ... the neocons are JEWS, get it? Does the name Wolfowitz and Krystol ring a bell? They're "neo" (new for those who flunked greek) "cons" as in conservatives ... "new conservatives" i.e., they used to be lefties and now they're righties. Not they used to be jews and now they're christians.

What we're fighting here is not Christianity

We're not fighting anything. You may be fighting demons from your youth and, I'm guessing, your relationship with your parents.

Damn, I'm gonna have to start charging tuition around here.

It would have to be pretty low tuition. "Neo" is Greek. I believe the Latin would be "novi."

Club Three Degrees is not a church. The church that meets, and is associated, with Club Three Degrees is a church.

City Council apparently wants it both ways. They want to use the presence of churches as a legal rationale to restrict the location of certain businesses--unless the church is where they want the strip clubs to be. Churches did not organize to create the ordinances restricting the location of strip clubs, restricting where sex offenders could live, where alcohol could be served, where guns could be used, or where illegal drugs could be sold. Cities project their moral stances onto churches and then say, "You can't do ___________________, because you know how church folk are."

Be surprised by joy as you seek the truth.
