There was a dead teen found not far from my house a few hours ago. It was the top story on WCCO. On the riverbank in front of Minnehaha Academy [North Campus, High School]. That would be about where W. RiverRoad and the Lake Street bridge meet. The police say it was obviously homicide, and not accidental. The area will be closed in the morning, and into the afternoon possibly. So, any commuters who use the road, just be aware of that. Sad that a young person like that had to die. [Update: More on the murder.]
That's my old neighborhood. I remember seeing the police pull a dead man out of the river. I thought that was messed up. This is sick. Perhaps the kid got into a scuffle with an enemy after school.
After reading the story and the part about the body being found by a camp I couldn't help but think about "Banging Camp" by The Hold Steady.

I drove over the Lake street bridge last night at about 7:30 last night and I saw a cop car down on the river road with its headlights facing the trees/river. It was only one squad car though, so I though it was something minor. They must have either been just getting there or just leaving.
It's quite a ways downstream from the railroad bridge.
The police never say "this is obviously a homicide". They say things like:
"Whether the death of the 15- to 17-year-old was an accident, a homicide or something else wasn't clear when his body was found late Thursday."

I knew Trevor Marsh well, and have hung out with him at that same spot. There is no way this was anything other than a murder, he was a happy kid and wouldn't have given up without a fight. which leads me to believe he was surprised by someone who was with him he hangs out there often so it had to be someone he didn't feel threatened by or they wouldn't be there and he wouldn't be off guard. Trevor was a GD (Ganster Disciple) and owned an abbundance of firearms, so a possibe scenario was someone looking at one of his guns and robbing him for all the other ones, but i know he wouldn't give anything up. so they killed him. also his crew had just bought a 'trap house' (a house to sell drugs out of) in the area, and just that same day he was showing me pictures of it and told me he was keeping all his weapons their. He had nineteen guns including an ak47 an many pistols. I don't think the people he was renting the house with were his friends so another possible scenario is he was hanging out with them and they saw the potential for profit from selling almost twenty expensive weapons fetching 200-500 dollars each. they siezed the oppertunity and shot him in the head. and just like that took controll of all his guns. I'm hoping the police find the bastards that did this

Four people are in custody for involvement in the slaying of Minneapolis high school student Trevor Marsh last fall, police said today.
A 16-year-old boy was charged Friday with one count of crime committed for benefit of a gang and one count of second-degree murder. He was arrested Wednesday in Omaha. His extradition is pending.
Also in custody are two adults and a 15-year-old boy. All were arrested Wednesday. George Martin Boleo (a k a George Martin Neiss), 25, is charged with crime committed for benefit of a gang and one count of accomplice after the fact. He is in the Hennepin County Jail on $250,000 bail.
Tia Marie Dropick, 28, is charged with being an accomplice after the fact. She is also in the county jail on $250,000 bail.
The 15-year-old boy is in the County Juvenile Detention Center. Charges against him are pending.
Shortly before 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 26, Marsh was found shot to death near the bank of the Mississippi River in south Minneapolis. The body was in an area along a dirt foot path near E. 32nd Street and W. River Parkway.

Like Nateek I find this discussion strange; I also find this strangeness offensive. Weeping for literacy is certainly in order--not literacy in the sense of correct spelling, but in the sense of being able to interpret the context of a conversation and respond appropriately. In this sense the MNSpeak regulars have shown far less literacy than those they would callously deride, through ill-timed pedantry and pointless doggerel. You're talking with a bunch of kids traumatized by the senseless death of their friend and classmate. Show a little maturity and give the topic the gravity it deserves.
Seeing as Trevor Marsh was 17, which would make his classmates upperclassmen at high school, I find their inability to communicate in even rudimentary written English quite troubling. This thread was not established as a memorial for Mr. Marsh, and while I have sympathy for the pain his death must have caused friends and family, that sympathy does not close this thread to other discussions.

Actually, bobby_b, there's quite a few out there who don't capitalize "God" when they use it to express exasperation or other emotion...it's a way to symbolize that they acknowledge the word as a form of slang but also don't want to mix in all the religious connotations, specifically taking the Lord's name in vain. Also, when you leave out the "good" part of the original "good God" saying, it no longer necessarily infers that you are speaking in reference to or towards a spiritual being.
