Have I missed a post about it, or have we just not discussed Art-A-Whirl? Any artists you're particularly looking forward to seeing? I'm definitely going to check in on Sean Tubridy, whose Harvey the Robot stickers seem to be showing up everywhere, and who created a killer ray gun print that I just got for my birthday.
I was just going to say, "What is Art a Whilr?"
Thanks for this.
**Whirl
I plan on having the whirlies the entire weekend.
I got those all the way through high school.
What are Whirlies?
Thanks for that, too.
I described to some friends 331's lineup this weekend (in celebration of art-a-whirl) as their "A-game"... I wouldn't miss Martin Devaney, JoAnna James, and especially not Walker Kong, who are completely sweet and play about once a year.
I usually hang at the 331, but the Revival Party at Grumpy's NE sounds too good to miss.
Whirlies are what you get when you 1) see lots and lots of art; 2) drink lots of gin and tonics while you are seeing lots and lots of art.
Me likey gin!!!!!
Methinks me will likey art-a-whirlies, too.
I don't have anyone to go with this weekend, tho. :(
We're going Saturday night, Christine, as a group (with a stopover at the Town Hall Brewery as they ceremonially unveil their maibock). You're welcome to joint the gang. Just shoot me an email.
sfkldjsafkldas maibock! maibock! mai bock bock!
I guess I'm going to have to swirly my bike around the neighbourhood this weekend.
Oh yeah: the artists. I love Frank Stone. I've bought four of his pieces of sculpture/furniture. Also Howard Christopherson at Ice Box. Marvelous photographer.
Sweet! Thanks guys!!
I will send you emails!
I'm not a scary stalker. Honest.
Had me a Hendricks & tonic after work yesterday. That gin is a work of art. Nice break from my usual Tanq & T.
Jerret & Jon (owners of the 331) have got a team in our Asthma Walk on June 2. Art hipsters (or not) welcome to join us
I have been known to stalk some Tanerquay now that I think about it...
You should try Plymouth English Gin, Christine.
And by that, I mean: Holy crap.
I like Hendrick's, it's delightfully aromatic.
**tanqueray***
Thanks! I will, Max.
Oh I will.
Hendrick's is also excellent. Make a gin and tonic with Hendrick's and garnish with a cucumber -- delicious!
Tonight we're going where the free beer flows and 331 probably late night.
Saturday: NKB, Cali Building, NE Grumpies, friend's space over by Uncle Frankies, then Rogue Buddah and the rest of 13th Ave NE. Hope to see yall there and not know who you are...feel free to buy every guy with glasses a scotch.
Mmmm... whirlies....
I will likely be at Grumpy's. Once Pat gets a little liquored up the free drinks start flowing my direction.
They also produced these awesome posters for the event. They printed the poster on the back of old government surplus heavy stock posters from the 40's and 50's.
If the guy with glasses also has a handsome and manly mustasche, he'll have bourbon instead.
Bob, it's summer. Lighten up.
If the guy with glasses also has a handsome and manly mustasche, he'll have bourbon instead.
thanks for rubbing it in, Bob.
I CAN'T GROW A MOUSTACHE!
I'm going to go cry in a corner now, thanks.
Now I've made Wayne cry..
Ok, I'll buy you a drink when I see you next. You too, David.
I just like saying whirlies.
whirlies whirlies whirlies.
Cute!
I've never been. We're going to hit it up some time this weekend. I'm not expecting to be able to see everything, but I just want to get out and about in NE and experience it all.
oh for fuck's sake
Haha! Somebody fucked up MNSpeak for like the 10th time since Max took over.
Let's do the time warp agaaaaaaaaaaain
And lo! The clock is reset, the pendulum is caught and held on its upswing. The tables are turned, Saturnalia is at an end and the world is set anew, just like at the end of Labyrinth, starring David Bowie, when the world of the goblins was just a paperweight or something and it was all just a dream until suddenly all the muppets came out of the wall. David Bowie would have done well to remember his underpants in that movie.
Friend IMs me: "So they lost some threads about pooping, sex, and bringing poop into sex. Oh, and about community pools... and the pooping in community pools."
She's right.
I see dead people.
I always thought threads from the past go somewhere to die when I'm done with them.
Like ex-boyfriends.
WHO WANTS TO JOIN ME FOR THE PELVIC THRUST!
Josie,
Be honest with me for a change - do these mysterious MNSPeak time warps have anything to do with LOST? We know the Twin Cities has played a role in the show before, so it seems logical.
so anyway, I still need a liberal date.
A) My name is really Myrtle
B) The time warps are unrelated!
C) They're actually in purgatory...right? Wait. What?
"I always thought threads from the past go somewhere to die when I'm done with them."
Most do. However, any user-posted text touching on sex and/or poop is kept in a special archive which becomes searchable if you ever decide to run for public office.
To annoy your Conservative date? Or are you hoping to make purple?
As a moderate, I must taste the rainbow.
"so anyway, I still need a liberal date."
May 1st.
And to think: all my brilliant thoughts on neighborhood associations and their gathering spaces are gone. Gone! FOREVER! DAMN YOU MNSPEAK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
that's as tragic as when geocities finally deleted my first website
Somewhere in a dark bar basement, a vague-looking man in a fedora is stumbling around in a daze and muttering "waddyamean, not THAT button? It's MY effin' button now . . . "
When I named my Memorial Day post "Taps," I didn't realize that it was taps for all the recent posts and comments...
"so anyway, I still need a liberal date."
May 1st.
BANG! Bobby on a role in all the time-space continuems.
bobby is pretty hilarious
