Hmong rap

Posted May 10, 2008

The New York Times Magazine profiles Minnesota rapper Tou Saiko Lee, who raps about his Hmong heritage and incorporates ancient Hmong poem chanting in his music. He performs with his brother, Vong a.k.a. Knowstalgic, in the hip-hop group Delicious Venom. The magazine also focuses on Gen. Vang Pao in a related article.

Compare that to the rant by Jason Lewis on KTLK on May 2nd, which he goes after Tou Saiko, hip-hop, diversity, and the Lake Junior High School, after Tou led a week-long workshop on rap and spoken word.

The Center for Hmong Arts and Talent (CHAT) will have a response to Jason Lewis Monday night on their radio show, from 8:30 to 9:30 on KFAI.
