Gavin Rossdale, didn't he used to play in Cheney?

Augustana? WTF? Who are they?

I haven't gone since the one in 2001 where I was jostled and elbow jabbed during "The Wallflowers" show until I wanted to stab.

/and yeah, I know, The Wallflowers...shame
»» Submitted by »»» aliecat at 11:33 AM on May 13

That is brutal. If they only did local bands, the line up could be significantly better.

The Alarmists
Cloud Cult
Mason Jennings
The Hopefuls
Tapes n Tapes

Those are just a few that come to mind that would make a bill that would be a beautiful weekend of music.
»» Submitted by »»» nateek at 11:46 AM on May 13

I like Augustana, and Gin Blossoms are a nice blast from the past. But yeah, still weak overall.
»» Submitted by kevin at 11:48 AM on May 13

the whole crowd (of 25 ppl) will be singing "hey jealousy" compared to the rock the garden line up

get it?

TOPICAL HUMOR

THIS EVENT HAS ALWAYS BEEN UTTER SHIT
»» Submitted by »»» geoff at 11:54 AM on May 13

Is Cities 97 still putting this show on? If so, that explains alot.
»» Submitted by »»» sornie at 11:55 AM on May 13

I guess I'll continue my tradition of not going to that way overpriced crapfest...
»» Submitted by infrequent commenter at work at 12:04 PM on May 13

Who's even on the list? I can't find the line up anywhere
»» Submitted by corky at 12:09 PM on May 13

I remember it being not so-shitty about 10 years ago. Then, 6 or 7 years ago I bought a two-day pass and that was a huge waste. Never been back since. Never regretted it.

»» Submitted by »»» CCC at 12:09 PM on May 13

On the bright side, Hootie and the Blowfish won't be there.
»» Submitted by »»» kurtis at 12:12 PM on May 13

OneRepublic sure brings on the weak, and it's too late to apologize for so many consecutive years of lameness.
»» Submitted by »»» champs at 12:13 PM on May 13

With Father Michael on his way out and the new bishop for Mpls-St. Paul, they probably had a pretty restrictive criteria for selecting bands from.
»» Submitted by NordeastB at 12:16 PM on May 13

Hey Jealousy
Crash Into Me
Breakfast at Tiffany's
Closer To Free
Why Georgia
(repeat)

...

That's still Cities 97's playlist, right?
»» Submitted by »»» ibran at 12:18 PM on May 13

they probably had a pretty restrictive criteria for selecting bands from.

Really? Because I thought the "bands that suck" criteria was the most nonrestrictive.

»» Submitted by »»» JACC at 12:19 PM on May 13

It does restrict bands that don't suck.

Fortunately, they've invited my Black Sabbath cover band, "Fairies Wear 'Fairies Wear Boots' Boots."
»» Submitted by »»» msparber at 12:21 PM on May 13

Really? Because I thought the "bands that suck" criteria was the most nonrestrictive.

Exactly. The next step would be "christian rock" stuff.
»» Submitted by NordeastB at 12:23 PM on May 13

Max, I love your version of Sweet Leaf, but I'm a little disappointed they didn't invite your Gin Blossoms cover band. That could have gotten surreal.
»» Submitted by »»» JACC at 12:30 PM on May 13

OneRepublic sure brings on the weak, and it's too late to apologize for so many consecutive years of lameness.

+1 for punny-ness.

Also, I saw them perform on Dick Clark's Ryan Seacrest NYE spectacular, they suck a lot.

What, "The New Miserable 'New Miserable Experience' Experience"? we broke up a year ago.
»» Submitted by »»» msparber at 12:31 PM on May 13

That always happens with the best 'best cover bands' cover bands.
»» Submitted by »»» JACC at 12:32 PM on May 13

It's so true.
»» Submitted by »»» msparber at 12:33 PM on May 13

I strayed away from cover bands since "Are you Experienced: The Jimi Hendrix 'Are you Experienced: The Jimi Hendrix Experience' Experience" broke up.
»» Submitted by »»» DouglasG at 12:47 PM on May 13

They really rocked the hizzle.
»» Submitted by »»» msparber at 12:48 PM on May 13

My side project band - The Taliband and the Funkghanistanis - was scratched after being deemed too political.
»» Submitted by »»» nateek at 12:49 PM on May 13

That's still Cities 97's playlist, right?

You forgot Fast Car and that 4 Non-Blondes song.
»» Submitted by Jim at 12:49 PM on May 13

You guys are so unfair. There are at least 20 songs on the Cities 97 playlist.
»» Submitted by »»» kurtis at 12:51 PM on May 13

During Pangea Day we came up with a great band name: The Secondhand Rickshaws, from a guy whose dream was to own a new or secondhand rickshaw.

»» Submitted by kevin at 12:51 PM on May 13

I just sold a short story (to this magazine) about a battle of the Steve Miller cover bands. Since there's still the whole editing process ahead of me, I have opportunities to wedge in another band name if anyone has a good one.
»» Submitted by »»» kurtis at 12:55 PM on May 13

I didn't realize that Cities 97 was still on the air. So I checked them out online. Here's the last 20 songs they played:
1. Landon Pigg - Falling In Love At A Coffee Shop
2. Linkin Park - Shadow Of The Day
3. Brandi Carlile - Turpentine
4. Ingrid Michaelson - The Way I Am
5. Yael Naim - New Soul
6. Jason Mraz - I'm Yours
7. Sara Bareilles - Bottle It Up
8. Swell Season - Falling Slowly
9. Jack Johnson - If I Had Eyes
10. Sheryl Crow - Love Is Free
11. John Mayer - Say
12. Counting Crows - You Can't Count On Me
13. Tristan Prettyman - Madly
14. Coldplay - Violet Hill
15. Bob Mould - Sunspots
16. Mat Kearney - Breathe In, Breathe Out
17. Dave Barnes - Until You
18. Gomez - See The World
19. R.e.m. - Supernatural Superserious
20. Amy Winehouse - You Know I'm No Good

In addition to not knowing half the songs, I can't help but wonder how many hours it takes them to play 20 songs.
»» Submitted by »»» nateek at 12:55 PM on May 13

Lizard Spit and the Bongs has been taken...
»» Submitted by »»» DouglasG at 12:58 PM on May 13

C'mon, do you really have to know the songs on Cities 97 to know what the songs are like? Mostly soft and mellow--with an occasional loud song to keep you from driving into the center abutment.
»» Submitted by »»» CCC at 1:02 PM on May 13

Well, at least Grand Old Day has an interesting musical line-up.
»» Submitted by »»» indyr at 1:06 PM on May 13

Sparber, son, son, you've gone too far.

Because smokin' and trippin' is all that you do.
»» Submitted by »»» andyst at 1:18 PM on May 13

I can't help but wonder how many hours it takes them to play 20 songs.

Between the strings of erection cream commercial and the painful pre-recorded DJ chatter I'd say about 3 hours for 20 songs.
»» Submitted by »»» sornie at 1:21 PM on May 13

I saw it, I saw it with my own two eyes!
»» Submitted by »»» msparber at 1:22 PM on May 13

There are at least 20 songs on the Cities 97 playlist.

In addition to not knowing half the songs

Too predictable and too unfamiliar. Neat trick.

My 65 year old father-in-law listens to Cities in his shop. 'Nuf said.

PS-Kurtis, Hootie's playing the Zoo this summer...
»» Submitted by »»» jtd at 1:49 PM on May 13

Cities 97 music: more effective than swallowing a bottle of sleeping pills.
»» Submitted by »»» sornie at 1:51 PM on May 13

Hey Nagel, your hyperlinked page to the Cities website comes up Not Available. What happened?

:-)

I like Yael Naim and Sara Bareilles. They both got famous from TV commericals. I love commercials on telelvision.
»» Submitted by »»» jderusha at 2:10 PM on May 13

Sara Bareilles is coming?

Faints.
»» Submitted by kevin at 3:09 PM on May 13

Not coming, that was just on the list of Cities 97 songs. Incidentally, I'm not going to write you a love song.
»» Submitted by »»» jderusha at 3:24 PM on May 13

I love commercials on telelvision.

You better, you better, you bet.
»» Submitted by »»» indyr at 3:39 PM on May 13

guess I'm overdue on a profile update :)

»» Submitted by »»» Nagel at 3:39 PM on May 13

The BoDeans and Lowen and Navarro killed Cities 97.

At least for me.

Oh, and "Walking in Memphis".

Dreck.
»» Submitted by bud jr at 4:43 PM on May 13

Gin Blossoms are still off the hook, as the kids might say.
»» Submitted by bud jr at 4:44 PM on May 13

3. Brandi Carlile - Turpentine
4. Ingrid Michaelson - The Way I Am
5. Yael Naim - New Soul

As somebody who lives with a Cities 97 fan, I can tell you that these three songs probably turn up in any 20-song sample taken from the past three months.

How about 'Fly Like a "Fly Like an Eagle" Eagle' for a Steve Miller cover band cover band name?
»» Submitted by »»» kurtis at 9:42 AM on May 14

Two words why it's great: Ziggy Marley

I think that about sums it up.
