VP Sweeps: Pawlenty still in the running

Posted July 23, 2008

According to Gawker: Minnesota governor Tim Pawlenty just might be our next Vice President! If McCain pulls this thing off. Which would be, wow. Pawlenty holds all the advantages as a running mate of a Charlie Crist -- young, inoffensive, kinda popular, governor of a potential swing state -- without the "probably gay" thing. He's just possibly gay. Now let's lay out the problems!

We are sooo loved by those New Yorkie types, aren't we.

He is mostly unknown outside of MN. Thus, he can pad his record like a resume. However, His biggest liability is that he would cost McCain Minnesota. In the long run, this wouldn't probably mean much. But, you would want someone to carry their home state. Lots of better options available. (His gayness not withstanding.)

If any Minnesotan needed a reason to NOT vote McCain I give you one:

Governor Carol Molnau

If Pawlenty is "possibly gay", RT Rybak is "Paul Lynde".

If Molnau becomes governor, James Metzen would become Lt. Gov and I can't think of anything more entertaining than a Molnau/Metzen administration. Right there you've got one person who can throw a keg and another who can drink it.

vote for Obama, because this will be delicious

»» Submitted by »»» g rote at 2:46 PM on July 23

I'll take RT Rybak to block...

Grote only like 3 people are going to get the Paul Lynde reference. And all three of us really enjoyed it.

For the younger crowd:

Jim J Bullock + Sass + Sport Coat = Paul Lynde + Puffy Hair

since when did jm j bullock have a vowel in his first name?
»» Submitted by »»» g rote at 3:19 PM on July 23

Lynde's Wiki is hilarious. Includes some of his best Hollywood Squares one liners, such as:

Q: Why was Nathan Hale hung?
Lynde: Heredity.

Jim J Bullock? Really? Is he still living? I think Jim J Bullock would be more of a black box than Paul Lynde. You might have well used Charles Nelson Riley...

I believe it was there until Cosmic Cow made it disappear in the episode titled "Break out the Pampers: Part I."

Then reinstalled for a moment in 1996 for the Jim J and Tammy Faye show.

CNR you lose the Hollywood Square dimension of the joke.
»» Submitted by »»» Dougie_D at 3:25 PM on July 23

I always confuse Paul Lynde and Charles Nelson Reilly. Probably because Reilly played the same role on Match Game that Lynde played on Hollywood Squares.
»» Submitted by »»» miller at 3:25 PM on July 23

lynde was a quick witted genius, and would have been a huge TV and film star if he had been a little more, um, mainstream.

ZOMG...
Q: You're the world's most popular fruit. What are you?
Lynde: Humble.

You can catch JM J Bullock tomorrow afternoon on an episode of Seinfeld.

Thur. July 24 5:00 PM TBS Seinfeld The Airport #4.12

Wait. Paul Lynde was gay?
»» Submitted by »»» mjm at 6:19 AM on July 24

My fav Paul Lynde line:

Announcer: "Paul, what is the lowest form of humor?"

Lynde: "Harvey Corman"

(laughter)

Announcer: "Once again, Paul, what is the lowest form of humor?"

Lynde: "Oh, humor. I thought you said human...""

zing! RIP, Mr. Lynde. You too, Harvey.

He beat out Jack Nicholson for the voice of Templeton the rat in the original, animated, non-stupid film adaptation of Charlotte's Web.

Paul Lynde was gay?

I find TPaw quite offensive. His little ratfink face and his ridiculous opposition to anything sensible that might possibly break from the party ideologies he's a slave to.

Try a little independent thought, asshole.

I see the old coot McCain has caught Osama in the polls here. heh. With Governor Tim on the ballot (and his prospect of being president within four years), it could put MN in the republican column. That would be sweet. Ha. Take that you bleeping liberals.
»» Submitted by »»» mazasapa at 10:36 PM on July 24

Osama? Really? That's low, even for you.
»» Submitted by »»» aliecat at 10:37 PM on July 24

oops. sorry for the typo. Except that did you hear that Dan Rather actually called him "Osama bin Laden" yesterday in a TV interview? HA Ha. If a democrat like Rather can make that mistake, I guess I'm allowed to also.
»» Submitted by »»» mazasapa at 10:40 PM on July 24

The poll also conflicts with another survey released Thursday by Rasmussen Reports, which shows Obama with a 49 percent to 37 percent lead in the state.

Not that polls matter. He who counts the votes always "wins" these elections.

But feel free to beat off to the prospect of it anyway Mazaspazza since it's obviously the only joy you can ever get out of your miserable life.
»» Submitted by »»» Raindog66 at 10:42 PM on July 24

I'm sure it wasn't a typo.
»» Submitted by »»» aliecat at 10:42 PM on July 24

I don't see it as low. It's just kind of stupid. It's strange because we all know that Maz is an intelligent guy. By going there, he jumps in hip deep with the moron wing of his party.
»» Submitted by »»» miller at 10:42 PM on July 24

my my. touchy folks, aren't we? heh. Polls are funny things. When the leader leads by more than 10 points yet doesn't have 50% it probably doesn't mean much. And in minnesota, I would bet the bradley affect is certainly in play.
»» Submitted by »»» mazasapa at 10:46 PM on July 24

We don't all know that, Miller. I think his posts here are ample evidence to the contrary, truth be told.

Ironically, not long ago mazaspazza was lambasting Chauncy Polenta and Jowls McCain for not being conservative enough for his liking.

But I guess if you're used to lying down with snakes it kinda becomes irresistible...principles be damned!

It's sad how some men feel the need to subjugate themselves to the bullies in power for fear of being bullied themselves. Sad and oh so predictable...
»» Submitted by »»» Raindog66 at 10:49 PM on July 24

Hey, raindog. I didn't say I liked him. I only think it's funny that the alleged inevitable dem victory is not such a done deal. That's all. I probably won't even vote for McCain unless Timmy's on the ballot.
»» Submitted by »»» mazasapa at 10:55 PM on July 24

Sorry Rain, I shouldn't have spoken for everyone.

Maz - bring your A game. You're better than that.
