High: 31° / Low: 18° — Dude Weather Subscribe to Secrets Minneapolis / St. Paul
We all have our personal grievances with various parts of the Star Tribune, and my long-standing object of derision had been the monstrosity known as Variety. Apparently others thought the same, as the section is gone from the nouveau-Strib, replaced by something called Signature. The debut Sunday edition of the paper opens the new section with a feature on ecologically-friendly fashion, which is okay but for some reason completely blows it by overlooking next week's launch of ODO (Organic Design Operatives), a new line of local clothing made from corn-derived products. Nonetheless, that story coupled with the NYT Styles-ish feature on restaurant numerology earns the new section a solid B -- a decent improvement off the F that was Variety.
I'm indifferent-to-pleased with the new Strib, however curious about where the new Night Watch column pans out.
Shameless plug (We're no strangers to that around here, are we?): I was mentioned Kara McGuire's Business column on Friday.
How. How the new Night Watch column pans out.
Drunk on a Sunday. Again.
The numerology piece (or rather the idea) actually was stolen from the PiPress, who ran something very similar a couple of weeks ago.
Uh oh, caught cheating. We might have a grade change in store.
I as well am indifferent to the Strib's new design. However, it seems as though their plan for a makeover has included poorly written stories on ridiculous subjects. The t-shirt story that graced the cover of the first Source section? Embarrassing. Likewise the high school paper quality review of a skin care collection.
Those stories truly sucked. But for some reason, I liked the general feel of the section on Sunday. TBD...
Is MNSpeak run by the Strib? Sure seems that way based on all the discussions about the Strib redesign. Who cares! What are you a bunch of out-of-work designers or ad agency types. Let's have some original thoughts based on events of the world eh?
Hi George. Yes, I think there's been a lot of Strib talk lately, and I can see how that might get annoying. There's a lot of other stuff here, of course. Like zombies!
Also, I just want to remind everyone that anyone can post to this site if they register. There's no excuse for making accusations about editorial decision when you're as much in control as anyone else.
Mine would have to be Augie Garcia's lost classic "Be My Guest" about the River Road Club in Mendota, although I have also always been partial to The Replacement's "Skyway." What are your favorites?…
